Make Your Christmas Gifts Eco-Friendly
The Christmas holidays are getting closer by the day and a large number of people will have already started their Christmas shopping in an attempt to beat the rush. Even though we all enjoy Christmas, mainly due to the silly amount of food we eat and the gifts we receive, however, Christmas isn’t a good time for the environment.
To accompany the obscene amount of food and gifts we end up buying also comes a massive number of packaging. The actual products inside the wrappings can have a negative effect on the environment, particularly the creation of the products.
Never fear though, there are a number of things that you as an individual can do to make your Christmas more eco-friendly.
Shopping for your friends and family is a difficult job by itself, but trying to shop for eco gifts is even harder. To give you some ideas, here are some great fairtrade gifts.
With everyone being more aware of the effects things have on the environment, more retailers are starting to sell eco-friendly and recycled products. Obviously bathroom storage or recycled glass tableware aren’t ideal Christmas gifts, but there are many that are. For everyone from gardeners to brandy drinkers, there are some great products such as recycled brandy glasses or recycled gardening tools.
As for children’s gifts, unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a massive amount for older children. However, if you have younger children then you should be able to find some great gifts along the lines of fair trade soft toys or solar powered wooden toys.
There are some great shops you’ll find down your highstreet or online that sell a large range of eco-friendly products.
The last thing you can do to try and help the environment comes just before Christmas day, the gift wrapping. Although you may believe that you can’t do much about that, unless you don’t wrap the presents at all. But there actually is. Being paper, wrapping paper is very easy to recycle, because of this, many retailers these day’s sell recycled wrapping paper. Also, after the big day, make sure you recycle all your wrapping paper to finish the job off.
